Problem connecting to the Internet

Just received my new laptop, and I'm trying to get it connected. I usually find the MAC address of the system and then find it in the router settings in order to give it access. However, the router finds other addresses but not my laptop's. :confused:

What am I doing wrong? I'm a noob so it's probably something simple.

I have heard about that, but unfortunately it's my dad's router/Internet connection and he probably won't listen. 'If it works fine now, then there's no need to touch it' is what he'd say.
