Problem converting a video file - .wmv

Hi guys,

I've got about 4x .wmv files that are posing me a bit of a problem; they play okay on my pc's in vlc bar the odd stutter an slight bit of pixelation, but they don't play at all on 2 of my portable devices. I just want to convert them to .avi and I can in freemake and they play okay, just really slowly... actually unwatchable.

I've never had this issue before, I'm thinking its a problem with the way they were coded at source? I'm downloading the latest k-lite pack to see if that improves playback on the pc but obviously that won't help me on the tablets

Is there anything else I can do/try?

Any Video converter, (not sure if im aloud to link to it, but google is, its the top of the page) Converts pretty much any video and its free.

I used handbrake in the end to make a .mkv from the .wmv and then I converted that to .avi in freemake... a bit of effort but it had the desired effect

What portable devices are they?

Most can play MP4, which Handbrake will sort for you..
