problem driving me mad: possible faulty chipset

Hello OCers,
i had an issue with my custom-built pc for a while now and i was not able to solve it in any way, leading me to suspect a problem with my motherboard.

my problem is the following: when i plug in a USB device which requires driver installation, i get the annoying "USB not recognized" message and "unknown device" pops in the device manager.
in more details, the USB devices i plug in fail to enumerate properly (getting listed VID_0000&PID_0000). other devices with no drivers (like certain mouses and keyboards) work normally. the devices giving the "unknown USB device" message in my pc work normally when plugged into another machine, excluding the possibility that the devices are not working properly.
both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports are giving the error, and same for mobo ports or front hub.
should't be a power problem as i plugged in a device powering off USB cable and was powering properly (in windows also i get the message that each hub has 500mA available).

my motherboard is a MSI Z87-G45 gaming edition, and i'm running win 7 x64 enterprise (iirc, i can produce a dxdiag later)

here is a list of all the solutions i tried so far in order of complexity (and nothing worked so far):

- resetting the pc
- turning off the pc and and letting it off for a while
- deleting infache file and similar solutions about inf files
- updating drivers
- registry editing
- updating bios (as i read some MSI mobo had bios-related issues with USB which was fixed in a later release of the firmware)
- re-installing OS after formatting followed by clean install of the most updated drivers.

after trying all these solutions i'm starting to get afraid the problem lies in the USB hub in the motherboard. my PC started having those issues after i moved to another house, maybe something got damaged in the process. i tried also to disconnect the front hub (as i was reading that sometimes can create issues).

if anyone has any suggestions or help imputs will be greatly appreciated, as i wrote in the title i'm going mad over this issue hehe. is the first time i'm not able to solve an issue by myself.
also any ideas to test whether this could be a motherboard issue would be appreciated as well

cheers

Leo

what I would try is a clear cmos option and see if this helps.

also it might be worth seeing if you can use a USB expansion card that connects to the USB headers on the board if you have one to hand and see if thee USB ports work.

as a last resort if you can try and get a USB 2 or USB 3 card to connect it to a PCI slot or something and see if that resolves the issue

i cleared cmos already several times to no avail unfortunately.

the pci usb card is something i considered to try, it just annoys me the fact that is kinf of a patch solution rather than a real solution. also the fact that my motherboard is under warranty would push me towards having it changed, if i can verify that the problem lies in the motherboard

Try installing the latest Intel USB drivers.

tried and didnt work :( i have them installed right now.
i got the intel drivers from the msi website though, but should be the same

It might be motherboard fault (not only broken chipset, but - for instance, small SMD capacitor), but you can check motherboard out-of-case bearing in mind that silverish-mobo-bags are static components and powering mobo up laying onto this bag might cause melting both & short = mobo damage. Simple paper should be good. Reason is some PC cases (not sure if it's still majority, or rather minority now) are terribly grounded, or you could've done some silly mounting with/without spacers by mistake, of course. Just take a look if that helps, if not - I'd RMA motherboard. To be completely sure it's a motherboard's fault, put some card with USB controller and you'll find out = if that works correctly it means system works fine and you might exclude it from faults path. It's faster way to get rid of the problem, no matter what it takes.. if works and it's a quick fix ;-)

update to latest bios aswell

tried that, didnt work unfortunately :(

a bunch of good suggestions there. unfortunately i dont have the technical capability to test the motherboard by itself (especially if there is a damage as you say in a small component).

i think my best option would be in the end to call OcUK tomorrow and ask about RMA and if is worth in their opinion. i have last month of warranty now so i may as well take advantage of it.

really weird problem though, as i happened all of a sudden
