Ok, yesterday I bought a N430GT gfx card (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-105-MS) and a 23" Acer monitor (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-058-AC).

After updating the drivers to the latest NVIDIA drivers, everything was running fine; 23" via HDMI at 1920*1020 and my existing 19" via DVI at 1280*1024, with the desktop extended from the 23" to the 19".

I booted up the PC this morning, the 19" showed the boot screens etc as normal, but as soon as Windows 7 booted up it switched to the 23" and put the 19" in standby mode. The 19" wouldn't wake up or show anything unless I selected Duplicate Desktop

After messing about, reinstalling drivers etc, i switched the 19" to using the VGA (D-Sub) and it works

I don't understand how HDMI & DVI with extending desktop can work one day but not another, when nothing has changed!

The 19" via VGA looks terrible, so has anyone else had similar problems or know of a solution?

Is there a switch on the monitor to flip between inputs? I know there is on my BenQ. You may have knocked it while turning it off . . . .

No there isn't, it just auto selects, besides that wouldn't explain why HDMI & DVI works when Duplicate Desktop is selected
