I was speaking on the phone at my mums place to bt for 30mins basically explaining that

The line is fine showing up as all ok on the router , but it fails to find any website or email server... It then times out and cannot find the server,

It was working perfectly fine for the last 3 months even worked last night! . The bt broadband lady then put me onto line support to have the line tested and they confirmed the line was 100%... I then got put back to the support in the uk i told another person again the problem and he cut me off, i was then put in a queue for ages and gave up.

Do you think the dns servers broken or something? , what are the current DNS servers for BT does anyone know?

Would it be an exchange problem?

Thanks

Open a command prompt (START > RUN > cmd > OK)

Type: ping www.google.com :then press enter and see if you get request timed out or reply from..

then try again but pinging google's IP address: 216.239.59.103

If you get a reply from the IP but the the dns address then you have DNS problems, otherwise you have a bigger issue.

BT Yahoo/Broadband/Internet

DNS Servers:-
194.72.6.57
194.73.82.242
194.73.73.172
194.73.73.173
194.72.9.44

Incoming Mail (pop3) server - mail.btinternet.com
Outgoing Mail (smtp) server - mail.btinternet.com

You also require your BT Broadband username. This is made up of [email protected] where "your" equals your first name and "name" equals your surname, e.g. [email protected]. BT Broadband does not require that you enter a password to connect but some routers won't connect to the Internet without a password, in which case enter the word BT.

start run isn't an imac thing so i won't be able to ping using that command through my mums imac...

Oh and thanks for the info

edit : Actually i could use my dns servers i already setup last month in my tcp/ip addy those are also bt broadband.I could also try the ones you gave me on my mums imac system.
