mates got a barton 2500+ and an asus A7N8X-X motherboard, 2x512mb PC3200 ram

problem is the FSB is stuck at 100mhz (multi is 11x and voltage is 1.65v as it should be) it was all running fine until a few days ago, hes replacing his graphics card because the fan died on his old one

every time he changes the FSB to 166 (which is what it should be) it stops on the post screen, doesnt let him into the bios etc, just locks up

what could be causing this? what could he try to solve this?

EDIT: oh and he cant run in dual channel either, dont think it boots if he has the ram in slots 1 and 3, only 2 and 3 (or 1 and 2 which ever way around it is)

all thats been done too

hes managed to get it to run at 133 now resulting in 1.47ghz or something near that by moving the FSB jumper and then putting it back again, but when set to 166 it just gets to a different point in booting and locks up, only once did it manage to get to the windows loading screen at that setting as well

any ideas what the problem could be now?

it didnt cook the card, he could still play css with it only problem was it got mighty toasty lol

hes got a 550w psu, im not sure of what model but either way that should do fine for a system of that spec, hes got a new gfx card which arrived yesterday, he can still play games with it but hes still missing out on that extra 300mhz or so
