Hi,

I have an issue installing office 2010.

I have a 64 bit operating system, but I am installing 32 bit Office as I also have Project and Visio (only in 32 bit version), so I need to install the 32 bit version of office.

I tried it once, it was quite a way through the process then I came back to the computer to see there was an error. It just said something to do with an error installing office.

So I then tried again and the computer restarted

Now if I try to install it, I accept the agreement, click install now, the progress bar moves slightly then it says:

"Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 encountered an error during setup"

Anyone know what this might be?

I thought there might be some files from the failed installation so I looked on the SSD where I was installing it under program files (I looked under the 64 bit one and the 32 bit program files folders), and there was an office folder there under each of them, along with some other folders that office had created.

I deleted all of these, one of them would not allow me to delete it, as it was 'in use by another program', so I used unlocker and deleted it.

But it still wont install

Any ideas??

I just tried that,

I take it when it says
End Removal: 11/22/2011 8:34:12PM

For detailed logging please refer to the log in folder ...blah blah blah

That means it is finished?

If so, I have done that, and just tried to install Office again and it still has the same error. I also tried the 64 bit version but that didn't work either

Any other ideas?

What is the actual error? Is there anything in the event logs? Is your Windows installation up-to-date? Even if the actual error looks unspecific, Google for the exact text sometimes turns up a solution.

There is no problem using 32-bit office on a 64-bit PC - very few people use 64-bit office.

You may have to uninstall it manually. I used to have an issue with 2007, that when it got corrupted, I couldnt uninstall/reinstall and had to remove all traces manually :( Should tell you on that link that was posted above.

MS actually advise installing the 32-bit version rather than the 64-bit version for ALL versions of windows. Spoke to them the other week about this.
Not that it helps your situation, just though i'd mention it.
