Hi i just built my first system and am having a problem installing windows it says (setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.see the setup log files for more info) i have a asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3 and intell core i5 2500k, i created a new partition on my samsung spinpoint f3 and this error keeps coming up any healp would be greatly appreciated

Thank Dean

The drive is detected at the beginning of the install?

If so, delete every partition and make a new one?

windows cannot be installed to this disk.the computer hardware may not support booting to this disk.ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the computer bios menu ?

that comes up when click show details

ok will try now i have a asus z68 extreame 4 gen 3 and i plugged hdd into the sata3 sockets there is 4 of them should it matter which one ? or is there a certain one

Use the Intel ones, not the very top pair.

Also set the SATA controller to AHCI in the BIOS

edit.. Use the Black ports or the two Grey ones in the middle, these are Intel controlled ports.

should i still use the sata 3 ports i had it plugged into sata 3 number 0 the grey on and i had my dvd drive in sata 3 port M1 were exactly do i plug them ?
sorry if sounds stupid questions

The very top pair are controlled by a Marvell chipset, the performance from these two ports are worse than the native intel controlled ports.

So avoid both the M1+M2 ports (very top ones) and just use the two grey and four black ones underneath.

in the bios, goto storage configuration,

set the sata mode to ahci, you can also disable the Msata ports

i forgot to set the controller to ahci but that worked anyway its installing thanks a lot i will update my forum as soon as get it up and running thanks a lot stulid and subbytna

life savers

the version of windows 7 i borrowed is only 32 bit, will have to buy the 64 bit for gaming you think i should so can get full potentiol from ram ?

How much RAM? if its 4GB then a 32bit operating system can address around 3.4GB of this.

But some of this is also for the built-in gfx if you have this enabled in the BIOS? and will be using the Lucid graphic switching?

If you have the onboard GPU off in the BIOS then you will be able to use the 3.4GB or whatever it is fully.

If you have 8GB then a 64bit OS is best for sure.
