Problem installing Windows XP off of a burnt disc.

My University provides us a (legal) downloadable copy of Windows XP Pro. I downloaded the image file, and Nero detected it and asked me if I wanted to burn it to disc. After doing that I tried booting another computer using it. It passed the "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware stage" but once it got to loading the setup files I got a BSOD and an error reading "Unmountable boot device."

I imagine this is something wrong with my disc as I managed to load Windows fine using a different disc. Is there something special I need to do when burning the disc to get roun this problem?

Mine provides this too - MSDNAA Subscription, apparently. It should just be a downloadable ISO, which should mean that it just gets written to disc as you suggest. There's no jiggery pokery involved, it should 'just work'.

It's evidently managed to image the bootloader correctly, or nothing would happen. Have you tried the disc on another PC? If that's still causing issue, maybe try burning a disc on a different PC.

Try burning the iso again but at a slooooow speed (eg 4x) and you might find your problem goes away ;-)

"Unmountable boot device." usualy means there was a problem when installing windows and the boot partition and File allocation Table we not created. This happens mostly if you have a dodgy stick of ram or the hard drive cable is not pluged in properly.

On a side note is the hard drive IDE or SATA?

If its SATA then perhaps the install needs the drivers to be able to detect the drive.
