Hi there, just sorting out a newish system of my sister's (6 months old PC), she was sick of vista so i'm replacing it with XP for her. Problem is, when I boot from CD and commence setup, it just states the HDD as an 'unknown disk' and pressing anything presents me with a BSOD.

Any ideas what it might be? Says it's a file error, so perhaps something wrong with the disc?

Maybe the disk is on a SATA controller and the Windows XP installation needs a driver floppy disk to continue the procedure. Presing F6 when prompted during setup will allow you to supply the setup with the drivers it needs.

Search the forum for lots of further info.

Well solved it, formatted the HDD completely in a seperate PC twice and still no luck. Then I realised that it was running in RAID mode and not IDE so the XP installer wasn't picking it up as I assumed I didn't need drivers :o
Bit of a schoolboy error there!
