Problem.....Mobo or CPU?! No IDea what to do now!

Okay so my Pc has went and em screwed up completely! It started to get erratic clocks on the CPU and it was ranging from as low as 9xx and then 1400ghz and then 1.86ghz, i thought, hmmmm whats up here! So I tried to take out a few components like changing the GFX card over the ram etc and nothing seemed to sort it out! Now however the PC no longer seems to communicate between the Motherboard and HDD! The HDD if I listen I can hear it boot up but then just goes quiet and does nothing, could this mean the MOtherboard is blown a fuse sumwhere?

Im pretty clueless as to what to do now as I have tried different components in different slots etc. I have tried different GFX cards, Ram slots, PSU's, HDD's, re-seating the CPU and nothing seems to solve the problem

I was thinking the next stage would be to try a New Motherboard, an inexpensive option just to get round to the key of the problem, could anyone suggest a good cheap alternative and also any other ideas on what I could try?

The mobo is more likely to go then the cpu. You can get into the bios ok though ?

nope the pc wont boot at all! seems to be no communication between the devices at all! I just bought an Asus psld2se for £50 there just to see me thru! I think il give that a go tonyte, its based around the same chipset im using so should hopefully be okay

You should just aim to get into the bios. Disconnect the HDD

Could you not take the motherboard back to the shop

I attempted the bios thing and it was impossible to get into it

Just gonna have to have a go with the new Mobo now, il let u know how i get on *fingers crossed*

You realise that the clock speed changing is perfectly normal, right?

is it realli? well anyways that motherboard is totally gubbed hence the whole not actually communicating to the screen or with the hard drive etc! THe proof?

Well I'm on here installed the new Mobo and everything is running aok

So its all good now, something must have burned out on the motherboard i think!

having the same problem with my S3 today... fitted it yesterday and all was fine and dandy.
went to sleep at 4 this morning, woke up at 10 and the thing is dead!

if i press the power button then all the fans spin up and stay that way, but i get no signal to the monitor at all, nothing

nobody that i can get hold of has anything PCI-e so i cannot check that its the graphics card today, and as i dont have a speaker plugged into the mobo header i cant even get the "beeps" to tell me whats wrong!

really frustrating

did you find out what it was at all?
