Hi everyone

I have just got Virgin Media broadband, and it came with a webstar modem. It successfully connected with a laptop over ethernet, but when i tried connecting it up to my Netgear switch, with 2 computers plugged in, only one seems to want to connnect. I have read on their website that its meant for only 1 pc to connect at a time, but surely you must be able to get it working on a network.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!

You need a cable router rather than a switch. This will provide a single point of contact for the outside world, but allow multiple machines on the actual network to communicate.

Best about is the Linksys WRT-54GL with the third-party firmware from DD-WRT

Ok cool! Thankyou! Ill give that a try.

Is it a simple case of plugging the coaxial cable into the router, or via the modem? The modem didn't need any configuring on my behalf, just worked from the get go, would the router need much configuring?
