My system switches on and fans spin, but it goes no further than that, so it's not posting fully... After lots of testing i've narrowed it down.. I just need your opinions as to what part i need..

I'm not too sure what the voltages are supposed to be before the system posts, but i tested psu with a multi meter and the voltages were roughly (2v)(5v) (11v)

I have brand new memory, so it's not that... I tried my graphics card in my mates pc and that worked fine and i don't have anything else plugged in !

So that leaves m/b, psu or cpu ?

Just before it conked i noticed the small chipset fan wasn't spinning cos it was caked in dust, so maybe the chipset got fried ? I put my money on the m/b, what you reckon ?

Thanks guys

I actually was getting random blue screens, but then they gradually got worse... Then sometimes the system wouldn't post until i rebooted it a few times, which is when i started to investigate and after investigation it wouldn't post at all lol :)

Well that's what i thought at first, but i checked my mates Dell XPS with same multi meter and his was reading 10v on the 12 and 1v on the 3.3v at the boot stage, so i just presumed they don't put out the full power until in windows etc

and i can't get a totally accurate reading cos the multi meter unfortunately only measures whole numbers

Well i have no idea to be honest

I think i need a better multimeter to get a more accurate reading, but like i said my mates XPS was showing lower voltages than mine and booted up no problem

Oh i dunno, it's driving me nuts :(

Thanks for your reply

Problem solved :D

It was the m/b, i got the Asrock 785G and it now boots up a treat :) i'm just installing windows now :)

Thanks
