My father has a problem on his machine, originally thought it was the extra HDD that he had fitted, turned out that it was the SATA cable that was playing up. Anyway took out said HDD, and PC crashed again, it hangs for about 10seconds every 3-4minutes roughly. Then will sometimes result in a blue screen, this one is the most recent (tonight) not sure if the others(two) have been the same.

I was going to start dis-connecting stuff but thought I would ask on here first incase any ones what my problem could be down to.

Hoping for some guidance from you people!

something is corrupt. Its normally caused either by faulty memory, dodgy drive cable, or bad sectors on the hard drive. Have you checked the drive for errors? Could also be worth running memtest.

If its either of the hard drive related things I suspect you'll need a reinstall anyway

Not checked the drive for errors, how can I do this? Not tried memtest either yet, was going to try removing a GB to see if that made a difference.

As far as Iam aware only the addition HDD, which was added at a later date was playing up and Iam sure I sorted that with a new cable. Will try replacing the older HDD with a new SATA cable aswell.

Thanks for the help :)

If you can get it into XP for long enough you can do it by right clicking on the drive in my computer and going to the tools tab and I think its the top option there. I think you can get at it by pressing F8 during boot if it cant get to windows, but I cant remember for sure on that one

Thanks, yeah should be able to get into windows. Will try it tomorrow, and will lwt you know how I get on. Thanks
