Hi guys, having an issue with the setup I bought for my lad a few weeks ago, been away for hols, so I only put it together today.

Main components :

OCZ CoreXtreme 500w '80 Plus' Power Supply
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM [CM8063701211800]
MSI HD 7870 Hawk 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ Nexuiz,
TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC)

Problem I have is when I installed Win7, I had it connected to the onboard HD4000 hdmi, as I couldnt get an output from the graphic card hdmi port, I thought that maybe the system would "find" it when i had installed Win7....but it still wouldn't find it.
So I removed the card completely and reinserted it, back into the x16 slot where it had been already, rebooted...still no joy.

So I strip my PC down and tried the MSI 7870 in mine, it works fine, then I installed my AMD 6950 into the new system....no output from the hdmi again.
So this leaves me to the conclusion that maybe I need to turn off onboard graphics possibly, although I wouldn't think so to be honest. However as i am not that familiar with the latest Gigabyte boards, especially this new uefi or whatever it is called, I cannot seem to find it.
At present I am waiting five minutes, as i dropped the battery out to reset bios......so I thought I would post this while I waited, as I know some of you are lightening fast with replies. ;)

I have thought of trying the card in the x4 slot but that would mean breaking out the pre fabricated slots on the case, so I would rather leave this as a last option.
Any other possibilites ?
I do hope it's not a case of RMA on the board.

Cheers for your time guys.

can you try another cable? dvi/vga? is the fan spinning on it? and yeh another slot worth a go for sure

power to the gfx card too

Already dropped a dvi in, same result.....blue lights are all lit up and fans are spinning merrily.

Just found something in bios that says :
"PCI ROM PRIORITY" and it is set to "EFI compatible ROM"... the other option it lets me choose is "LEGACY ROM"

Is this something I should try ?

As a rule you usually don't need to turn off the onboard graphics but you could try it.

Does the card appear in device manager at all? Also if you don't have enough slots in your case to use the x4 slot then you could always remove the board from the case to test it.

Lastly have you tried any of the other outputs on the gfx card? You only mention hdmi

No, it doesn't show in device manager. Think I will just break out the pre fabbed metal slot covers and try the x4 slot. :(

Right, so I just tried the card in the x4 slot...and it works fine.
Downloaded the latest drivers, installed them, rebooted, all great.
Swapped the card back into the x16 slot and it is in correctly too........no display

Apart from the possibility of a dead board, has anyone else got any other ideas ?

hm if it was newer card only id look for bois updates but you say the 6 series does the same

you could try backup your bios profile and restore defaults see if theres any weird setting doing it, other than that your x16 slot seems dead :(

super dusty in ur case? maybe a clean and some wishful thinking :)

Try your PSU in his system? CoreXtreme is a pretty basic PSU.

I did contemplate trying this until it booted with the card in the x4 slot. My way of thinking is if it boots in x4, surely the psu isn't the issue and it should boot in x16, all things being equal.
Not massively clued up on the x4 and x16 malarky, apart from fact I should be using the x16, as it is the faster slot
