Problem restoring backup to iPhone7

So on September 6th I had to send off my iPhone 6 for repair. I backed up the phone and can see my computer has a 33GB folder structure for this date. However when I click restore I don't get the option of this backup only the ones I did at the beginning of the year. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to restore to this backup?

Is the phone on the same ios as the backup

Hi mate, it's on a newer version the backup was on 9.5.3 or something and I'm now on iOS 10. I may have found a way to do it, just testing now... I deleted the contents of an old backup I had which showed up as able to restore and copied over the backup that I wanted and now it's restoring... Just have to wait to see if this works and what it restores.
