Hey all,

I recently build a new pc with the following components:

MB: MSI 270i Carbon itx
CPU: intel 7500k i5
RAM: G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200 C16
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NBMe m.2
GPU: Gigabyte G1 gaming 1070GTX
PSU: Corsair HX750i (From a previous build)

My problem is as follows: When gaming, or watching a youtube video, the entire pc freezes up while looping the sound from that instant, very fast and very loud. It is stuck like this until I do a hard reboot.

The following solutions did not solve the problem, but some tests are giving some pointers:

  • I've tried using DDU to do a clean reinstall of the video drivers.

  • I've tried disabling and uninstalling the nVidia HD Audio driver.

  • I've tried running Valley Benchmark to stress the GPU at max settings, to see if this was the problem. (No problems at all)

  • I tried flashing the BIOS and updating all the drivers manually, but still no luck.

  • I've tried running a Prime95 blend test, where it froze after a minute. Another test went on for almost an hour, until i stopped it.

  • I've also tried running a memtest with memtest86+, where it went on for 40 minutes before freezing up, and one where it froze almost instantly, but the test itself didn't give any errors.

I'm not running any overclocks or anything like that.
At any time my temperatures are great, and nowhere near anything dangerous. Max cpu temp was 61°C and max gpu temp was around 65°C during the benchmarks.

I'm thinking the problem has something to do with my RAM or the memory-controller. Have any of you guys tried this, or maybe help me find the culprit of this problem?

Cheers

freezes in PRIME and memtest basically mean something is wrong. you might not see the memtest error, because the OS was not able to recover from it.
I'd recommend upgrading to the latest BIOS, and resetting to "optimized default" and try testing again. Also see if you need any sort of driver/new bios for running windows from a m.2 drive.

This sounds like a RAM issue.

How much RAM is there? Can you remove all but one stick and run memtest86+?

If it's not completing, that doesn't mean you should ignore it.

I had this exact issue and my solution was the vcore was set to "normal", I changed that to "auto" which gave it an extra i think 0.1v and since then i have never had this happen.

Might be worth a check to see if maybe your voltages are a bit low.
