Ive just added a water block to my graphics card then reinstalled it and now I cant post or at the very least my monitor is not turning on despite it receiving power.

All the lights on my mobo light up so it would appear that it is booting normally but my graphics card does not seem to be sending a signal to my monitor to switch on.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

obvious things first but CHECK them!

Is the graphics card right in the pci express slot. Make sure you cannot see any of the metal contacts.

Check your DVI cable is pushed firmly in to the DVI socket on the GPU and screw it in.

Both these have caught me out at least once.

Yeah its in the top pci e slot. what metal conatcts are you refering to?

Im using the 8 pin lead to the mobo plus the 24 pin. The other thing I've done is install a new E8600 cpu at the same time as the gpu. But that shouldnt cause any issues.

you getting any POST beeps when you power up?

Is the CPU seated properly (doubt thats it but you never know)?

Have you pulled a jumper off the mobo when changing stuff over?

running out of ideas now..... er......

Have you got the right bios for that chip? did you have any overclock on when you changed the chip?

Im assuming the cpu is seated ok tbh.

However I did have an overclock on the cpu, i forgot to set to defaults. gpu was at stock.

And you have cleared the CMOS haven't you? I mean using the jumper on the CMOS reset pins, and also removing the Bios battery for a while?

I'm sure you have, but worth checking!

Other than that, does the new waterblock stop the card insterting fully?

No havent cleared the CMOS or removed the battery. I'll give it a go.

No the block doesnt seem to inhibit insertion in any way that I can see.

As an afterthought the old heatsink fan plugs into the pcb, so now that its unplugged due to the water block could this be affecting the card on start up?

Another thing to check, is the source on the monitor. This has got me a couple of times and is a little anoying. Also, if you have installed a new CPU, check that you have the CPU power cable installed.

Monitor source is correct. gpu and cpu are water cooled.

Screen still wont switch on.

Yeah, you'll need a cheapo CPU to flash the BIOS.

Lesson is probably not to sell your old CPU until you've made sure the new one works :p

Plenty of peeps over on XS are running the E8600 on bios 0901, and I needed the cash from the sale of the old chip to buy the new one, but point taken it would have been helpful to have a back up chip.

Which GPU block have toy put on your card? Is it an EK block, if so, is it the version with the additional black aluminium part on the rear of the block? ( rev 2 'snail')

Have you tried it with the stock cooler back on?

Yeah its the EK block and I also have the black aluminium backplate although I gather its optional.

I think Aurhinius is on to something.

According to the Asus website, the 8600 on the Striker Extreme II was supported from Bios 1001...

You'll need another chip to flash the bios I think, although I understand some firms can flash the chip for you if it's removable, but it's probably cheaper to pick up an uber cheap Celeron or something.

Hope it is something as simple as a BIOS flash. But as said people are running this chip on earlier BIOS' over on XS.
