problem storing images in sql 2008

im having a problem storing a png in a sql database, now im connected to it through access to make it a slightly more simple to enter in information and im using a "image" data type and when i either drag and drop or input the image into the column it only loads the file name now i googled etc and ms say i need to install additional software on there office page, what additional software is unknown... and the rest are mostly c# web reference malark now for 2008 im sure you can input more than just a bmp image ....oh another thing when i try just a bmp image it drops connection but a png or jpeg its fine .. just doesn't display it

so any idea peeps ???

Would it not be better to store it as binary, rather than explicitly an "image"

Or even store the file separately and record the file name/path?
