Hi,

I've just upgraded the graphics card in my water-cooled PC with the 5870 from another PC.
Both the Water-cooled PC and the 5870 were working prior to the upgrade.

Now when I turn the PC on it displays a white screen for a few seconds and then the monitor goes into standby mode. The PC seemingly continues to boot but I can't see for sure.
I should probably mention that I attached the EK 5870 waterblock myself.
Both the 6-pin power cables seem to be in place (I should probably mention it's also a new PSU).

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Thanks.

It will mean draining the loop and fitting the stock cooler again.
I was hoping that maybe the problem and solution could be identified without me having to drain it (since I only filled it up yesterday).
I'm guessing I'll probably have to drain the loop, but was just hoping there was an easy fix that someone knew.

Getting really close to ditching the water-cooling as it just makes everything more of a hassle. But i keep hoping that it'll work and everything will be good...

Well I managed to get an old 8400GS graphics card in (without draining the loop).
That worked fine, so I think it must be the graphics card.
Guessing I must've broken it when attaching the waterblock, which is annoying as I was really careful so as to make sure i didn't break it!

But since it was a reference 5870 I can't even get a replacement card now. Buying a new graphics card and waterblock is a bit expensive really so I'm not sure what to do now. I could go back to the 4870x2 I took out (assuming that still works!) but part of the reason I made all the changes was to get rid of the 4870x2.
I could then go back to an air cooled graphics card, but that feels like doing half a job. Plus which 2 x 240mm rads seems a bit overkill for that.

Yeah, there were spacers on it, which is a good point I didn't think about.
Don't suppose it could be a safety feature because there was no fan plugged into the fan connector?

I had this on my rig. The system hangs with a white screen yes? Have you had any warnings pop up about the display adpater driver failing and being recovered?

If yes I would suggest booting into safe mode uninstall the gfx drivers and reinstall a different set.

Doesn't even post, let alone boot into windows.
