Helping out a friend who cuts templates on a plotter and then uses it to inscribe gravestones.
His old comp win 95 went **** up, mobo and hard-drive got fried.
I made him up a computer, installed win2k (more later) and installed his plotter no problem.
The problem I have is with his software, its called Easysign, which has a hardware lock dongle.
This fits to a 25 pin male D serial port then the plotter/cutter fits through a 9 pin female serial connector.
I cant get the hardware lock to work. I have been using a pin converter male to male so I can connect it to a parallel port but still get that there is no hardware lock.
I have since been told that this software (although it boots up fine in win2k) will only work with win95, just says hardware lock not fitted. Is this true or is it because the old 25 pin D serial ports are obsolete now and only 95 machines really had them?
If I could find a pci expansion card with a 25 pin D serial on it anyone know if this would work?
Anyone with any ideas please let me know, as atm the bloke is facing a £400 bill for new software if we cant get this dongle to work.
