hi guys.

after many years of not playing PC games i decided to get back into it. currently i have been using my pc as a xbmc/kodi box so i installed a spare 560 i had laying around as it was quieter and supported hd audio better. shame its a bit crap for gaming.

i plugged in my 580 the other day and i get no display. can someone confirm the 6 and 8 pin power plugs?

all i can find is the splitter that goes from 2x 4pin from mobo into the GPU 6 pin but then i have the 4 pin plug empty. should i have another splitter around, saying going from 2xmolex to 4 pin? its been so long i cannot remember and the manual is a bit vague.

help please! funds are a bit tight at the mo so i would prefer not to have to splash any cash.

Dear lord my poor, poor brain.

Mate that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

sorry haha. yeah that doesnt make much sense.

basically i have a 6 pin input in the GPU for power. my PSU has 2x4pin pci-e cables. i then plug those into a 6 pin adaptor which goes into the GPU. the thing is i still have another 4 pin socket on the GPU. i just want to know if there is another adaptor i need to use so i can plug something into that. the manual shows 2 pics, pci-e power splitter and molex power splitter, im just not sure if i have lost an adaptor somewhere.

the machine powers on but i get no display.

I think pictures maybe helpful. From what it sounds like you've got PCI-e 6 pin plugged in already. But you need a 8 pin for the other socket on the GPU. sounds like you need a 2x4 pin to 1x8 pin adapter cable. If I'm understanding the "2x4pin" as a molex connectors.

If I've got this correct you want one of these:

That'll turn your 6 pin into an 8 pin.

Then the two Molex connectors can become a 6 pin on one of these cables:

You can get 2x4pin molex to 8 pin PCI-e but I cannot see any on OCUK and I'd rather see pictures and the name of the PSU before making anymore recommendations..

From the sounds of it mate you desperately need a new, more up to date PSU.

'Cause from where I'm sitting it sounds like you're dancing with death :D

ok. found a YT vid showing both of the 8pin and 6 pin need to be plugged in so i must have lost the 4x4pin to 6 pin adaptor. i will get one of those first as i had this working for a while with no problems. i just swapped out for a quieter card when i wasnt using it for games.

sorry for the confusion guys!
