Hello,

A few days ago, I encountered a problem when I was playing bf2 (on winxp sp2). The game minimized it's self for no apparent reason. I thought it was something out of the blue and ignored it. However since then any application I use is it a game or some other form of software gets minimized after so long. Sometimes I can go an hour or so and sometimes it will happen every few minutes.

I searched around and found a number of fixes for people who had similar problems such as a conflict of software or something trying to run in the background but every solution I have tried with closing start up programs and processes hasn't worked.

Some sort of ad-ware or malicious program was then suggested yet I've scanned with any and every respectable program I could find and despite finding some nasties the problem still persists.

I’ve made sure everything is updated such as direct x and video/chipset drivers and any windows updates.

a lot of solutions seem to suggest that it’s something I’ve installed yet the problem arose out of the blue. Besides updating my ati drivers and the regular windows/avg updates (which I removed to before the problem started just to be sure these weren’t the culprits) nothing has changed.

I would be very great full if anyone who has encountered this problem could let me know if they have found the cause or a suitable fix.

Thanks.

Do you have an XBOX360 controller installed? The xboxstat.exe program installed with that causes the same problem you're describing. I took it out of my startup and it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have tried some of those scanners but not with the system restore turned off. I'll d/l the other app's and then run each one through again. Does it matter much that I'm not using full product of NOd32 or Ad-Aware 2007?

Geezer, yes I do have a 360 controller howvere I have had so since sometime last year but never had this issue till a few days ago. Regardless, I will remove the installed files and see if that will solve my problem.

I'll reply back once the scans have finished and I see if the problem stops or persists.

Thanks again.

Well, few hours later and I've completed what was suggested above. Removed the 360 controller files and scanned with NOD32 and the others. These did find some problems which were then removed.

Tried to run some applications however after a few minutes it again minimized to desktop. :s

Any other suggestions on what I might try next?

Thanks again.
