Problem with Asus Board

Occaisionally when I switch on the fans start and the drives spin and then everything stops. First time or two it happened I went round all the connectors making sure they were firmly in place. The main atx connector seemed a little insecure so removed and put back system restarted fine. The problem seems to be becoming more frequent and isn't always solved first time. The board is an Asus M2N32-sli Premium Vista edition. Power supply is an antec true power 850 watt unit. Processor is an AMD Phenom 9950, memory 8gb ocz platinum. System drive crucial m225 +3 seagate mechanicals one of which died recently (7200.11). Has run fine for 12+ months first on vista x64 and now on Windows 7 x64.
The problem often occurs if I have added or removed a drive e.g. when the recent one died even though it was in the lower drive cage and there was plenty of slack on the cables so I don't think it would have loosened anything.
What do you reckon board dying ?

Thanks, I guess it could be a power issue. It has been my practice to turn power off altogether overnight. First step I think is to leave it switched on and see if I get recurrence before more radical research.
I haven't done any stripping down yet as I had thought the issue was a connection one.
I'll see how it goes for a few days then if I get recurrrence start following your suggestions.

Thanks, can't say that I'm that impressed with the board or perhaps I should say the ongoing lack of support in the form of updated drivers etc..
I have tried multiple restarts from the case button which didn't work - that's why I fist looked at physical connections.
I'll see how it goes over the holiday before starting major troubleshooting exercises.
