Problem with BitFenix Alchemy 6pin PCI-E extension

I have also just bought 2 of these PCIE extension cables i hope they fit my 5850 ok!!

I was told by Bicepo (customer service) that they have just checked their stock and that they are all Version 1, which they did not realise.

So proberly best to contact them also.

Thanks for that mate, i actually bought mine just under a week ago from somewhere else before i realized OCUK were going to stock them!! I haven't actually opened them yet to check so think i am going to do a visual check when i get in without opening them so if they need to go back then should be ok about it i hope :)

Spank there bums 5UB :D

Edit

Just phoned the wife :) who informed me both my middle pins are oval shaped and not square phewww! Hope you get your sorted out tankskun sharpish!

GOT IT FIXED NOW!
:D

So the friendly staff at OcUK offered me a refund, but was eager to finish off my build today. I modded my old connector to fit the odd Bitfenix one.

After watching a quick guide on Youtube about removing pins with a paperclip, decided to give it a go. Only staples was all I have. With my uber elite modding skills off comes the version 1 plug. (I'm such a noob though, managed to cut my thumb with said staple lol)

Finished up quite well in the end and good as new. The cables look so much better than my stock rainbow ones haha. Was going to take more pics of my build but had enough for today.

Happy at the end :)

I made the mistake of buying the wrong type of orange connector when I did some braiding and rewiring last year. I used a craft knife to add the bevel to pin 5 and now it goes in lovely. It's not something I knew about before buying them either. Normally all these minifit connectors are the same. Was a simple mod once I realised what i needed to do.

It's great that Bitfenix and OcUk are stepping in to help though.

We are getting hold of the supplier now. :)

if you havent already its probably worth sending an email to everyone who bought them explaining the situation. while people reading this thread will know whats going in i'm willing to bet some other people are miffed off that their sexy cable doesnt fit

@Tealc: thats normal... if something is wrong we are of course obligated to help you guys out... as of now the RMA rate of our cables is very very low but sometimes there may be some faulty ones.

Got 4 of the 6 pin pcie cables for a build im in the middle off. Thankfully no issues with them fitting on my gtx 460's. Certainly helped improve the look compared to the rather thin mesh braid on the psu cables.

Have to get a load more for the rig in sig, but im stuck on what colour to go for this time. Too many to choose from.:D

@panyan: we do have many shipments to Europe and the stock doesnt get conserved even sometimes... meaning while still older ones are in the warehouse the logistic sends out newer ones...

I fowarded everything internally so they check and make sure there are no mistakes anymore.

The case housed an old rig that died ages ago. In between that and fitting the new components, i was decorating, so the old parts were binned and the case put away while the work was done. The window panel got separated in the midst of the mayhem. I have two eclipse cases, but one was a cheap globalwin that i sourced some akasa parts for, (front fascia and side panels). There were different eclipse panels scattered all over the house.:D

Happy at the end :)

Really glad you got it sorted out matey! I had an issue fitting mine in the end i had to pretty much force it on and they are bloody sharp the plastic plugs!! anyway when i finally got it on i took it off again but in doing so it seems to have pushed one of the male pins out of the plug slightly. Is there a way i can just push it back into the plug without damaging it would you know?

Did you recieve the version 1 cable?

If not then I could suggest just plugging the pin back in, as there will be no way to damage the pin. Only in removing the pin you have to put in thin paperclip/staple at the sides to push the pin holders back.

Just hold the cable tightly and push in. You should hear a little click as the pins lock when pushed in.

Hope that will help you.

Hey guys, we have spoken to Bitfenix and we will be receiving the correct model of these. - If you have ordered these and received the wrong model, please post your order number and a picture of the cable in the Customer Service forum and we can send a replacement as soon as we receive them. :)

Cheers for that matey, to be honest i am not quite sure what version i have. It seems the male end of the extension cable that will plug into the graphics card has 2 oval shaped middle pins. The female end of the extension cable that plugs into the PSU pci-e connector seems to have 1 oval and 1 square middle pin. Would that make it version 1 or version 2? I was not to sure if both ends of the extension cable should have to oval middle pins

thanks again

Your describing a Version 2 cable but with a Version 1 rear plug
Could you post a pic?

I don't think the female end matters as an oval pin with fit in both the square and oval socket

This is correct and should fit regardless. I'm not to sure how to advise if it does'nt plug in (need pic to clarify). Maybe best contacting Bitfenix.

Here you go mate heres a pic, sorry about the quality they were taken on my phone

This is the end that will plug into my 5850 (2 oval middle pins)
