Recently I've been having a problem with my gears, I normally cycle on the highest gear (7th) and get around 22mph, however recently when I've switched into 5th gear and higher where I'm putting a lot more force on the mechanism, the chain feels like it's "slipping" for lack of a better term. I feel some kind of jerk and the power from the pedals goes for a second and then comes back, makes my bike sound like an old banger.
So I'm now stuck using 5th gear at maximum which is only around 18mph.
What could be causing this strange problem? Could I have damaged the derailer by changing gears when the motor was running? I've done approx 2,000 miles on this bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
