Hey all

I recently put together a pc and for some strange reason I keep getting CRC errors. e.g. When I download files some are corrupt and report CRC errors. But then If I download on my other computer they are fine. Then copy onto my new computer across the network they are corrupt. I have to keep copying until I have success. Also have problems burning CD's on the new PC. Specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Gigabyte GA 965P-DS4
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3
IBM 320GB SATA300 16MB Cache
LiteON 16X DVD+/-RW
Antec NeoHE 500W PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler

I've tried transferring files using windows networking and via FTP with the same problem. I've run a fun check disk and defrag on my drive. Not sure what else to try but it seems like a hardware issue.

Only thing I've overclocked is the memory voltage to 2.10 because Geil said this is the required voltage for this memory.

Mobo is running latest gigabyte bios

Any help is much appreciated as this issue is driving me crazy!

Thanks in advanced

CRC Errors are usually caused by a damaged HDD or CD.

You have tried numerous CD's I imagine, so have you tried different cables to your HDD/Optical drives?
CHKDSK didn't return any errors?

Tried a different optical drive? (Harder to try a different HDD)
Using drivers from Intel's website for the chipset?

You can also get them if the memory is messed up or there is problem with a CPU/motherboard setting.

I would check the memory, as I know a lot of CRC errors during downloads and opening archived files can ben due to that.

Geil Memory = Crap

Found the problem. I ran Memtest and it reported heaps of errors. I've tried the modules on there own and one of them looks faulty.

Now I'll have to get in contact with OCUK. Its very annoying though. I normally go with Corsair or kingston but was recommended Geil for this mobo. Now I have to try and return just the one chipset but not sure if this can be done as they came as a pair.

The only time I have ever bought Geil it did the same.

But swapped them over - Then no errors. 0_o
PC is still running, fault free, to this day.
