Problem with dads pc

Got a weird problem with my dad's PC. Every so often the screen will go blank then come back on, I know its not a monitor problem cos I've tested it on my monitor and have the same problem. My guess is that the Gfx card is dying however its only 1 year old, its my old PC and it was fine up until a month ago when I upgraded. Wonder if anyone on here has any suggestions or if you agree with what i thought.

Specs are:
amd 64 3500+ (939)
1 gig generic ddr 1 ram(dual channel mode)
foxconn nforce 4 board
powercolor radeon x800xl (pci-e)

oh and nothing is overclocked in there, any help would be apprecited.

Check for dust. If the card is clogged with dust, it could be overheating, and the screen blanking-out would be the VPU recovering as it got too hot.

yeah i thought that as well at first so cleaned out the cooler but still doing it, also the cooler was only warm to touch and not hot when it did this, so this is why i'm thinking the card may be on its way to silicon heaven.
