Hi all. A friend has a laptop that boots up ok, but once windows 7 boots up, lines and gibberish appear across the screen, and you cant see any of the desktop.

I had a quick look when I was over there, and started it in safe mode, in which it booted and windows ran ok.

I then tryed safe mode with networking, but then the issue re-appeared.

I then thought id try looking in the start up folder to see if something was strarting on boot and causing the problem but it was empty.

Any ideas as to what direction to take next?

Thanks

Can you post pics of the screen issue, as it may be the ribbon cable to the screen which could be the problem.

Can you try a external monior.

ok, tried external monitor, problem still exists, but does not appear when booted in safe mode?

1.you could try a reformat as it looks like it could be bad drivers

2. the gpu could be borked in 3d mode (windows aero taking it into 3d mode would explain why its not happening in safe mode)

3. Bios corrupt on the gpu i have seen this on a laptop before could try updating that

4. GPU is overheating and is clogged up inside with lint a good clean out could fix it

5. Bad ram and the graphics card is some how using the same part of bar ram in turbo cache

there is probably more things it could be but thats all i can think of atm

Ok mate thanks, was kinda tryin to avoid re-formatting, but i guess thats the first thing to try b4 lookin suspecting hardware?
