Problem with ethernet port?

Hey all,

I'm having trouble with my internet connection.

I installed windows today on my new hard drive and the internet connection has been working fine via the ethernet port. Yet about an hour ago it stopped. I plugged in a usb-ethernet connector which lets me connect to the internet. Yet if I plug back in via ethernet it won't work.

Device manager doesn't show any conflicts afaik. Any help with checks I can do? I can't really keep the usb-ethernet connector as it's for my mums pc.

Yea got a spare one here (though not a permanent one as it's too short). I'll give it a try.

I've had to reinstall windows for my new HD (not really keeping the old one as it's IDE).

The connection is working fine on the USB - ethernet dongle yet it won't via the ethernet.

[edit] scrap that last bit. It's saying that it can't repair my IP address.

Any ideas?
