Problem with Explorer

Yesterday I downloaded Winamp from a mirror site as I wanted a fast download. When I double clicked on the file, it disappeared completely. I thought nothing of it, but then promptly lost all internet access, even though I was connected to my wireless network still and all tests came back ok.
I started checking in the usual places and noticed I now had two copies of 'Explorer' in my windows folder. I stoped the second process in task manager and deleted the file - low and behold my internet access came back.
Is this a known problem/perhaps a virus?
Is there anything else left on my system I should be worried about?
I could find nothing on Google.

Thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it. The log analysis site you linked is ingenius. It identified a few strings left over from a trojan so I cleaned them up and believe everything is fine now.
Thanks again. :)
