Problem With FPS

Hey guys i wasnt sure wether to post in the games section or the general hardware section ... so i decided to go in General Hardware as it could maybe be a drive issue, just a quick question uhm, i play cod4 lots, all runs fine but the odd time i open cod4, i will go in all laggy and my fps is like 2-4fps, but a quick restart sorts the problem for a few days i suppose, it does it sumtimes after a exit then reopen etc. anyone have ideas

8800 GT is my gfx card (this may help i dunno)
 
Uninstall the game completely then reinstall it again, if that doesn’t work try updating the gfx driver.
 
Nvidia chipset?
If so, do you have the network access manager installed?
Try removing it, it decimates some games (HL2ep2-steam for example) and prevents others (Kuju/EA rail simulator for example) from running at all.

However, the problems it causes are not generally known to be intermittent like yours.
 
ive heard of an issue exactly like what you are describing but i think it was with the 9800gtx or gx2 . not sure why its happening on your 8800gt though.
 
i had the same problem once with my 8800GTX,i would be playing fine,steady 333fps in cod4,then for a split second it wold drop to 1-2 and then straight back up,i went into multiplayer options and set all graphics to default and played like that,FPS drop has'nt happened yet
