my friend sent his broken laptop to his local computer shop because the headphone socket was completely broken (had come off of the mobo completely.
this is what the repair man said afterwards:
I have completed the repair on your headphone socket. Unfortunatly it is not a standard socket and so I could not replace it. So I have had to repair the broken socket. The downfall to this is that the detection does not work. So when you plug headphones in, or connect to a stereo as you do, it does not turn off the onboard speakers. Other than this, the sound quality is coming through absolutely.
the two questions i have are:
- is there an easy fix to this?
- will a USB sound card like this one fix the problem?
thanks for any help
