I’m having a problem, trying to install one of my new HD4870 card, and I’m having driver problems.
Un-installed the Nvidia drivers ok and driver cleaned then as well.
PC boots ok with ATI card I can go into in to safe mode OK and can use the Vista ATI driver OK but as soon as I install the ATI latest driver (hotfix) the pc boots ok, have the windows vista knightrider screen (you know the one), but as soon as it goes into Vista proper it switches the monitor off. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers have even tried installing the drivers the drivers that came with the card, but nothing help.
Anyone got any ideas? don’t really want to re-format and start again.
Thanks in-advance.

well before the PC loads tot eh desktop it uses a low resolution and when loading into it scales to your chosen resolution... your monitor might be goosed in some way... its worth a try... ok just read your edit...

If you disable the ati driver in devce manager and re-boot the pc works fine in 1920-1200

Have just tried my other pc which has a HD2600XT in it, and guess what!!!!

That to dosen't work with the DVI cable but does work fine with VGA.

Might try a different DVI cable, the one i'm using came with the Dell 2405FPW

Have a bad feeling it could be the monitor causing the problems, there are a lot of post's on other forums regarding ths model off dell and ati card using dvi and this fault and its going back a couple of years..
