Hello

I just got a new comp from oc and I am having trouble connecting by HDMI. The vga to dvi connection works but naturally I want the higher settings.

Can someone tell me how to do this please?

Many thanks

What do you mean by trouble?

You get no picture, the picture is too big or too small?

Is the HDMI lead known to be working?

Give us something to go on.

Also what monitor/TV and what graphics card?

And FYI you'll get 1920x1080/1200 using a DVI-I to VGA adapter.

Well what happenns is the screen goes blank when just connected with the hdmi cable. This cable is working as I was using it to connect to my laptop only yesterday.

The monitor is a samsung and the graphics card a GTX 570.

I didn't realise you get 1920x1080 without hdmi cable but still I would like it to work. The highest option I currently have is about 1600x700 I think, can't check as there about 47 updates being applied right now.

If you haven't already click on "Driver" here and download and install the driver.

Windows will then "know" what monitor you have and what resolutions/refresh rates it's capable of.

I'm no expert on Nvidia (AMD/ATI graphics for me) but in the Nvidia control panel there should be an option for 'Adjust desktop size and position'.

You likely want to set this to 'No Scaling' and if there's an option for overscan (possibly under the 'Size' tab) you probably want to set this to zero.

hmmm , apparently ' I am not connected to an nvidia device'. I installed the card this morning:/

Try restarting the PC if you haven't since you connected the HDMI cable.

And disconnect the VGA cable if you haven't already.

I assume you are connected to the GTX 570 and not the motherboard's video output if it has any?

Already restarted and disconnected the vga. Hmmm, the dvi output was connected directly to the card itself, the hdmi connection isn't though (it's a bit further up). I wonder if that is the problem, but there must be a way to use the hdmi connection.

edit: I guess the hdmi is on the motherboard then?

Does your GTX 570 actually have a HDMI connection or is the HDMI connection on the motherboard?

While you're at it what motherboard do you have and what model of GTX 570?

Edit

If the HDMI is on the motherboard then unless you're using a Sandy Bridge board with Lucid Virtu you aren't using the GTX 570.

As I assume you do want to use your new graphics card you're best sticking with the VGA connection from it until you've sorted out a DVI/HDMI adapter or cable if the GTX 570 doesn't have HDMI.

The HDMI is on the motherboard not the card itsef. The board is a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 which is sandy bridge aparrently, not sure about the Lucid Virtue though. The card is an MSI N570GTX.

Will DVI/HDMI be the same quality as straight HDMI?

Lucid Virtu utilises the onboard GPU for desktop use and then feeds the GPU output from the graphics card through the motherboard's outputs for gaming.

The most straightforward way to use your setup is to disable the onboard GPU and connect directly to the GTX 570.

N570GTX doesn't narrow it down much as all the MSI GTX 570's have that as part of the model number.

However, all the MSI GTX 570's seem to have a mini HDMI connector.

Your options for connecting to the graphics card:

1) DVI to HDMI adapter/cable, no loss of quality.

2) Mini HDMI to HDMI cable, no loss of quality

3) Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter and then use a full size HDMI cable, no loss of quality.

Your monitor doesn't appear to have speakers so that's not a concern.

Perhaps your graphics card came with a mini HDMI to HDMI adapter?

Ok, located the mini hdmi port and found the adapter hidden away in the card box so that's all sorted. I manually resized the display to get the full screen in but now everything has gone blurry and can't seem to find a way to solve it in the nvidia control panel aprt from reverting, any ideas please?

Oh and I set it to no scaling:)

Unfortunately, as I said, I haven't used Nvidia cards for a number of years so my guess is as good as yours.

As long as you've set the output resolution to 1920x1080 then it should fit perfectly on the screen and be sharp and clear.

Unless someone comes along with specific advice about how to set things up in the Nvidia Control Panel you'll just have to have a play around with the settings until it looks right.

Try changing the scaling to something other than 'No Scaling' as that was only my best guess.

If you look at page 3-16 of the User Manual there's an option for 'Image Size' make sure that it's set to 'Auto' though this shouldn't matter as long as you're outputting an image at 1920x1080.

Sorry, that's as far as I can take it.
