Hi guys and girls

Getting a bit stumped over this one!

I have connected my PC to my TV through HDMI on my 3870 x2, the picture works fine.

The sound however still comes out of my pc speakers, when i goto control panel and then sound, it shows my digital output device (HDMI) and lets me test the speakers and the test sound comes out of the TV, so it works doing this.

I have set it to default, disabled my motherboard sound, gone into my motherboard sound aplication and done the same and still nothing (apart from the test sound working!). Any advice?

Running Vista, Thanks in advance!

Sam

Oops, spend to much time reading general! sorry :)

DVI doesn't output sound so unless I'm missing something you don't actually have any sound output connected to your TV?

But when i goto sound in control panel and test it... it plays the test sound through my TV speakers! it hasnt got any other cables connected to is definatly getting the sound to my TV through the DVI - HDMI - HDMI.

make sure the programme is set to use the hdmi sound (or that it is the defauly sound device).

IIRC Vista allows for different programmes to use different sound devices, i'm currently running with 3 (Zoom player via hdmi sound, most things via soundblaster card, voice comms via onboard headphones - allows me to have the sound effects in tf2 up, but also hear ventrillo clearly).

Not quite. Providing it's the DVI->HDMI adapter provided with the 3870, then it should work, and clearly does as the sound test worked.

I'd go with Werewolf's suggestion as Vista does indeed allow this. Also check whatever application you use doesn't have similar audio output options.

Just to let you know its all working!

I didnt close the program (vlc, windows media player ect) and then re-open it for the changes to take effect! All works fine now.

Realised this after watching a film all the way through using my pc speakers and thinking 'wow they are good speakers, its like the sound is coming from in front of me where my TV is!!!!' .... it was coming through them both. haha!
