Problem with Itunes

Yesterday I upgraded my Itunes to 8.1.1 in order to rent a film from the Itunes store. I then try to plug in my IPod and I'm told the software isn't compatible with my IPod now and I'll need to re-install Itunes.

I then uninstall Itunes and then attempt to re-install, however I got a message claiming I don't have sufficient privileges to run the 'Ipod Service'.

I then try various things. Running the program as Administrator, un-installing Itunes, Quicktime and all related programs, restarted my computer, and that hasn't worked either. I've tried disabling the firewall to see if Itunes needs some sort of connection to the internet to validate its installation.

I'm now at my wit's end trying to think what the problem might be as I've tried pretty much everything imaginable.

All help appreciated.

Did you try to reinstall using an administrator account?

Don't have much to suggest, but seeing as it's mentioning services, have a poke around Start>Run>services.msc for any Apple/iPod related services and check their status.

I am the administrator.

Just tried that mate and it won't let me change a single thing!
