Problem with Joint Task Force and Medieval 2

Hi all,
Having a problem with both games and a process file that pops up in task Manager - '~e5.0001'.
JTF refuses to start and Windows closes it down, M2TW won't start from the desktop icon (same problem), but will start from the DVD - both are shop-bought completely legal versions of the games.
Looking around it's either something to do with Macrovision or SafeDisc - anyone else had this problem or managed to solve it?

just create another new shortcut on the desktop?

Just tried that - still launches the ~e5.0001 file which prevents the games from running
