Problem with launching game on steam

Last night i bought Call of Duty 2 on steam, its has been downloading overnight, and finished this morning, however when i click on launch game, it just stays preparing to launch forever basicly, i went down to get some brekfast, came up to check and it was still on it, went down to eat my brekfast, came back and it was still on it, cleaned my teeth and had a shower, and came out and it was still on it! tried a couple of times now, with restarts and everything.

Any suggestions?

ok im gonna have to re-download it, for some reason it only says 14mb in disk usage so obviously something went wrong.

ok done all this and its still not working! I am so annoyed as this cost me damn money.

Any other suggestions?

ok i have found a fix from the steam forums, some guy had the exact same problem with me, exactly how he described it and everything, its a vista issue and i need to disable UAC by doing this:

1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
2. Go to Tools.
3. Scroll down to Disable UAC.
4. Press the Launch button.
5. Restart the computer.

I no how to do it, but could it be dangerous to my computer?
