ok everyone i have a veryy veryy weird problem that i need some help from all of you :D.

pretty much we have a problem with our line, it can and has synced above 10mb before (on Sky Max btw) however it only syns at about 5/6mb now, so i phoned up sky who say that the DLM is lowering the speed due to instability. i say ok how can we fix this. So they reset the line etc.. and send me a new router. start syncing at 10mb then drops again. new router stops working every hour and now the internet seems even more unstable timing every hour or so on the old router. using dg834gt currently and each time it does this under adsl modem info etc.. it says negotiating then comes back again after around a minute. So i phone up again and then their tier 2 support?(customer resolutons) claims that there is a lot of interference on the line. BT queit line test reveals nothing. but the SKy person said there was some copper interference or something?? how do i find out if its my equipment or BT's? they said to call out a BT engineer but i dont really want to be left with a nice big bill especially as im completely broke atm(and the father isnt helping at all :S).

So yeh please any suggestions and help would be fantastic.

Many Thanks

The quiet line test wouldn't tell you anything useful here anyway. In that sense Sky are right. ADSL uses a completely different set of frequencies that you couldn't hear.
Any ADSL faults should be dealt with by your ISP - there's nobody you can talk to at BT that can do anything about your ADSL service unless you move it back to BT (and that would be a dumb idea).

If it says "negotiating", it means it's losing sync. Have you got the modem connected to the master socket, with all your extensions (if any) filtered?
It's possible that 5-6Mbps is where it's stable now.

yep, master socket and all extensions are filtered. weird thing is, i unplugged the sky+ box from the master sock(also went into the filter) and my snr went from 6 to 10 and it seems its not dropping now? could a sky + box do that?

Try changing that filter for a new one, possibly a new phone cable from the back of the sky box as well.

thanks for your help, yeh i just bought new filters etc.... just got off the phone with sky, it seems the sky+ box was throwing noise downt the line somehow and they are sending out an engineer free of charge so im a happy chappy. will update this when and if its resolved, so that people with the same problem can test to see if they have the exact problem and what to do :)
