Problem with Live Membership

My gold membership ran out yesterday, so to do me until i re-new it, i used a 48 hour code i got with GoW. Entered the code and it said to log off and log back on to take effect. Did that and its still on silver membership, tried the code again and a code from Halo 3 and it says invalid code.

Anyone else had this sort of problem? Because i'm wondering if i buy a pre-paid card would the code off it work, i could try doing it through Live with my debit card if it accepts it, but its a fiver more than a card.

I'm not sure where it was but I read that some codes only work if you are creating a brand new Live account and they don't work to extend already created/previously subscribed to accounts. Not sure if that is true though.

That's true, you need a new gametag to get a free trial.

My xbox live ran out last june. After rumours of XBL going free i decided to get a 3 month contract (silly me). Then it ran out which i totally forgot so used my HALO 3 code no probs. Then topped it up with a years subscription. Infact i used my 1 month subscription, then my GOW 48 hour trial, then used a Piniata 48 trial, then a 3 month sub, HALO 3 48 trial and then paid for a years sub off marketplace and never had any problems.

I have read elsewhere that you have to have a new gamertag to use the trials. So if i get a 12 month card, then i should be able to use the code off it fine?

48 hour codes allow you to play online but don't give you a Gold subscription you stay on silver. This seems to be glitched with Halo 3 though as it then wont allow you to play matchmaking mode(tried last week). If you bought a prepaid card it would work fine no need for a new GT and you would be back on gold.

Ok cheers guys, eased my fears of my GT being fubar. Hope i can pick up a card locally what with the postal strike. :mad:

I bougth an e-mail code from eBay and got it in a couple of hours.

Do these actually work though? Seen some from the USA but heard they don't always work over here?

The european ones do, US ones don't.
Just buy a UK based one.
