Hey Guys,

Something nailed my McAfee and has killed it, tried re-installing and it's self fixing thing won't cut it.

Just wondering if anyone has any free virus scan things to check against my pc.

I've used Hijackthis to check.

It could be the malware that changes the registry key to overide your antivirus.

HKEY_LOCAL_MKACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusOveride

IIRC the value should be set to 1. Sometimes the malware will set it to 0 so it messes with your AV.

Spybot S&D should find it.

Worth a look. :)

Problem with McAfee

Your main problem was having McAfee installed in the first place.

Disable system restore. Combofix, Vundofix, smitfraud. Possibly malwarebytes or superantispyware. Google, download, deploy. Voilà.

Then as a preventative try Threatfire. I've recently started to install it on every PC I fix. Very low overhead and seems to block all the malware that average AV apps miss.

After you fix McAfee make sure if your ver of Mcafee supports, it enable Anti-virus Maximum Protection and Common Maximum Protection and check prevent McAfee services from being stopped this will prevent malware and viruses writing to your disk.

Ok cheers guys, will have another check tonight, I always thought McAfee was pretty good.
