Problem with mic/headset/computer

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but i guess you may be able to help me out.

Basically when I use my mic it plays sound output through the mic so anyone im talking to can hear whatever sound is happening on my computer.

I've searched the internet and the solution seems to be open up master volume and mute the microphone but this has no effect at all.

I have noticed when i decrease the master volume other people can hear output from my computer less but this is not ideal.

It is not a problem with the headset as ive tried different headsets and the problem remains and when I use the headset on a different computer it is fine.

So does anyone have any idea how to fix this??

is it a creative soundcard ?

if the recording device is set to "what-u-hear" and mic then this will give feedback.

no its not a creative soundcard.

Sounds to me like you have stereo mix selected on recording and not mic.
