Our bedroom suffers from mould growing on the walls and sometimes even on the underside of the mattress (laminate flooring). We have the window open most of the time but this doesn't help much.

We're considering replacing the laminate with carpet as it get's very cold in the winter, will this make things better or worse or no difference even?

Also does anyone have any advice on what we can do to keep the moisture levels down in the room?

Sounds like your room is too damp, is it just that room that is bad?

p.s it's mould :p

Problem with living in the basement of a 160yr old building I guess. The spare bedroom (next door) suffers from it to some degree but nowhere near as much

I always get confused between mould/mold

The outside walls have had damp proofing.

After looking up what tanking is (and finding a link on how to tank a room for making into a wet room) I seriously doubt the room is 'tanked'
