problem with msi afterburner!

okay well i had my graphics card (ocuk 6850hd) set to 930/1130 on saphire trixx but on msi afterburner i can only get to 850 max on the core and am not able to change the voltage(even when unlocked) is there a reason for this? can i do anything to sort this?
i have tried 2.1 and also 2.2 beta (which im currently using)

ive only gone back to afterburner as i like the fact u can have all the data and fps and screenshots and video capture plus it seems to be the most favoured on here.

after reading it i opened the file with free file viewer and cannot edit the documnent at all so cannot do the things that thread u linked me too says to!

am i just being a moron or?...hahaha
 
Afterburner sets a default safe profile for overclocking your card within set parameters without pushing it to far, by doing what has been posted in here you are going beyond the afterburner set limits so you are pushing the card beyond there recommend limits,I haven't touched volts and from what I gather that is what kills the cards as it create's heat which is the ultimate killer for cpu's and gpu's.

Can you kill cards by pushing the levels too high without voltage changes and heat being okay? Or is it a matter of them crashing and you having to back them down to stable levels and causing no harm?(this is what I understand it to be)

This is only what I gather from it but I'm sure a more knowledgable and experienced person will post in here and tell you and me!

To be honest there seems to be a lot of movement from there max settings and to when it actually crashes take my 6850 for example (this is with no voltage changes) Msi stops the core clock at 830
But when unlocked it happily runs at 930 has gone higher(i found this out with saphire trixx as it allowed me to go a lot higher) so im not sure how much more i would get clock wise and performance wise by adding voltage in the mix but shows u how far u can push them and im pretty sure they underclock them espically with the new cards.

When your overclock is crashing on stock volts it means u either have to back off the clocks or use the voltage to stabilise the overclock (obviously will only go so far before damaging the card and creating a lot of heat) mine hits 60c underload which is absolutely safe I hear over 80 is when u start worrying!

There is a thread on here that has people posting up there results of overclocks and voltage changes on there 7900 series if u wanted to do this personally I would take the average volt uppage and clocking settings lower it slightly for peace of mind and enjoy I hear there is a lot of potential for overclocking in the 7800 and 7900 series so lots of performance to be gained if u would notice it is another question entirely.......

Regarding not damaging card through overclocking without volt usage and what's safe to use 24/7 basically what's been written in this thread any knowledge input would he much appreciated
