sold my 470 gtx and got 560ti 2gb palit sli from a nice guy on the mm, had a little trouble ever since i instaled them, basically running in 16x 16x sli ( haf x) the gpu 1 runs at 59.c idle and gpu 2 runs at 49 idle gpu 1 runs at 97.c load and gpu 2 87.c load. in 8x 8x they run at 36.c idle, top one runs about 41.c idle. which i think is acceptable in temps ? only thing is, these cards shouldnt be running this high on the 16 16x slots, not only that when i run ungine heaven 2.5 in sli the screen just flickers and if it does manage to work, i get around 39-41 fps on 1080 16x af 8x aa and only normal tesselation. in crysis i only get 29-33 fps so im guessing one card isnt even working.i dont know what to do, ive clean installed drivers and even tried the beta 275.50 but no luck really. going to try one in 16 and one in x8 and see what happens. just wondered if anyone had any input. the guy who had them before they seemed to run champion infact he posted benchmarks on here

Gigabyte X58 UD7 is a stupid motherboard with silly PCIE spacing, which sticks two cards firmly together leaving no room for the upper card to breath.

Best solution: sell the UD7, get a reasonable motherboard, just as what I did years ago. Good examples of PCIE spacing includes ASUS Rampage III Extreme, EVGA E770 etc.

Secondary solution: swap these two cards, and hopefully to reduce the temperature difference by a little.

Regarding your SLI scaling issue: check if the SLI bridge is connected correctly - you could also try to connect another pair and see if it's due to bad contact, given that you observe flickering. Also, you could get MSI Afterburner and enable GPU usage monitoring on screen in games to see if both GPU1 and GPU2 are stressed at the same time.

yeah im not keen on the mobo, wanted to go rampage extreme III one went on here for £80 in the mm but i didnt have the funds at the time. ill try 16x and 8x though it still dosent explain why ungine heaven artifacts and only gets 39 fps its asif only one card is working, also, sometimes its running at 19-22fps

If you can manage to use the x8 slot to leave some room for the upper card to breath, that should be fine, because x8 shouldn't bring too much performance impact.

Try to debug the GPU usage as I mentioned above. Do you overclock at all? Try the stock clock speed first and see if it's stable.

all stock, and i just use the sli brindge that came with my ud7 in the box. ill do that, i didnt see your edit. thanks.

right, so, gpu one is in 16x slot at the very top and gpu 2 is in the 8x slot at the very bottom, sli seems to work now, get 40+ fps averagre on ungine goes to 70s and 90s 100s with low aa, been playing crysis 2 ( whch is naff and not that impressive tbh) and im getting about 50fps average goes to 68 sometimes which is good, both cards idle at around 38-39.c swapped the cards round too and its always the top one regardless so no problems with them just airflow issues, might invest in a few fans or aftermarket coolers so all good i guess

So was it actually bad contact somewhere? 50fps in Crysis 2 with everything maxed out? That seems pretty impressive, as my GTX580 3GB x 2 SLI can only do around 65fps or so average (though I didn't test it much).

well one is right at the top and one is right at the bottom so about 2 pci e slots between them as well as a pci slot, ive re insalled the gfx duct as well for the haf x so all the air gets channeled to the front of the case, both idling at 37.c now on 55% fan speed and on full load on crysis 2 get to about 77.c 83.c on the top gpu. yeah man, 50fps seems the average though it goes to around 45fps most of the time too, in some scenes it goes as high as 67, i had vsync on to start with so it was sticking at 59 -60 for most of the beginning its in the heavy scenes it begins to dip.

That's very nice temperatures for 55% fan speed! When I had my Gigabyte X58 UD7 my case didn't allow me to use the lowest x8 PCIE slot so I had to sell it. You are just lucky with an appropriate case :)

yeah im happy with it now :) definitely runs cooler collectively than my single 470gtx did, though bear in mind 55% is idle, i cant remember if it was 55% when i was playing a game. what case did you have ? and what did you sidegrade/upgrade to mobo wise ?

I had Antec 1200 with UD7. Couldn't use the lowest x8 slot. Then I sold UD7 and bought EVGA E760 for better PCIE spacing of x16 + x16 setup.

When I moved home once, I found Antec 1200 too heavy (15kg for the case alone) and decided to go for light-weighted cases (aluminium). Now it's a Lian-Li 7FNWX. Surprisingly enough, the cooling capability of Lian-Li 7FNWX is almost on par with the Antec 1200.

Now with 80% fan speed on each of my GTX580 3GB I can maintain 80C, but can't say it's quiet. They reach 90C with 65% fan speed.
