Problem with my 5850

Ok, firstly I'm new here so Hi.

I just got my 5850 this afternoon, my first ATi card ever. I was previously using a Nvidia 7 series, quite a bottleneck in my current system (see below)

CPU - Core i7 920
Motherboard - ASUS P6T
Memory - 6GB OCZ (12800)C8
PSU - OCZ 600W

Now I'm not massively experienced with graphics set-ups so please forgive me if I have made a massive error here. I uninstalled the previous drivers (Nvidia ones) turned off the machine, took out old card and put in the new ATi card, turned on the PC. Cue much beeping from the motherboard. Tried this in every PCI-e slot and every time got the same beep (1 long beep followed by 3 short ones which evidently means no VGA found). Before you ask I plugged the power cable in too (new to me as well)

The card is a Sapphire 5850, brand new, I might add the instruction manual is very poor..... After waiting almost a month for this I'm kinda miffed right now so any suggestions would be gratefully received

Cheers

Any chance of trying it in another PC?
or reset your bios put in the new card but dont plug any power to the HD or Dvd rom.
and see if it posts to the bios.

i remember reading there was another asus mobo that had issues with these cards, differant chipset though. think it was an amd 780 chipset. try checking out the web site and see if there is a bios update for the mobo that fixes any issues.

not sure if this is possible, looking on the net there re others that say those series of beeps are memory errors, could there be a compatibilit issue between the video cards memory and the motherboard. would be fixed by a bios update but im not sure if the problem is even possible, plus not something id want to update a bios for, a guess i mean... allways a little nerve wrecking those bios flashes!

It most certainly did thanks. Silly thing really, the instructions that came with it only showed the single cable, I assumed the second was for Xfire or something...

Thanks again guys

Probably find the instructions are generic and have been used since single pci-e cables were the norm. Its amazing how often problems are down to basic things like loose or missing cables.:D
