Hi guys,
I just finished build my first PC. I bought all components separately and just build it up. After I powered it up - everything was perfect. Just one beep, startup screen came up without any problems. Change boot options to DVD first and save it.
Now I decided to to MemTest+
After I get to 4% i heard something like loud 'puff' coming from the case.
I didn't noticed from which component the sound come from, however I couldn't start computer again.
Now I just bought new Thermaltake 775W XT for this rig, so I don't know what could be a problem.
I took my old PSU from my old PC, and everything went through without a hitch. I start memtest just to see if mobo, memory and GPU are working and everything seems to be fine (I get to around 50% of test)
The PSU now seems to be dead. I tried to switch it back after few minutes however there was no response at all.
Any ideas what possibly could go wrong?
Is wrong connection of some cables (like fans, or HDD) could trigger overload?
Any ideas?

Things that were connected at the time of accident:
Mobo - Asus P6X58D-E
CPU - i7 950
GPU - 2 x HD6870
Memory - 6GB Corsair DDR3 XMS
5 fans
DVD Writer
o and I have CPU Cooler - Prolimatech Megahalems with Akasa Apache Cooler

random power spike from mains? sounds like quite a nice psu so it should have protected the rest of your components

RMA the new PSU- it sounds like it went kaputt.

Thank god everything else is working, that could have been a disaster. If memtest is working with the old PSU and the new parts, it sounds like you plugged everything in right, the new PSU's just a bit dodgy.

That what I'm afraid of. It will take few days to get replacement, and my old one doesn't have 4 PCI connectors, so I will have to wait till get new one.

I thought that 775W is more than enough to power it up, plus I read quite good things about this particular one

BTW My old PSU is also Thermaltake 650W - I have it for 4 years and is working absolutely fine.
