Just got my new Asus 4890 card today.
installed the card, and the noise of the card sounds like when a bearing goes on something. when i touch the fan, the noise goes. and also goes when the case in layin on it's side. but once back up onto its normaly position, the noise comes back, sounds like a loose car wheel. plus, is the ati box meant to be sealed ? as the part where u open the box was ripped :( should i just RMA the card... gutted now..
It's not the normal sound of the fan, as my mate has the 4870 card, which don't make this crazy sound.

Cheers.

Hmmm someone mentioned similar in another thread and commented that he pressed the fan down into the heatsink to reduce the fan noise.

Sounds like may just be a batch with slightly loose fitting fans but nothing too much to worry about if you are prepared to give it a bit of a squeeze (telling it you love it is optional) :p

I got the same card today. It's now under water but when it was running on the stock fan it didn't make the noise you describe.

Also the box was sealed.

I also got an Asus HD4890 today from Overclockers, and mine is making that same noise as the op is experiencing...seems to be a fault with the bearing of the fan, so just going to RMA it now....bit of a bummer really.

I was tempted to go for the ASUS, but instead opted for the XFX 4890 after reading some reviews about the noise problems,
All I can say is the XFX 4890 Rocks ! running UT3 - COD4 and its quiet, set at 50% fan speed and its great :D

Lol git lol.. do u have you're AA and AF set to 4x 16x with any jaggies ?
Did u go with the one with the 2 games ?

8 on the AA and 16 on the AF + AAA = Quality.. No Jaggies :D
And yes the 2 Games [ Hawx and BattleForge]

So the xfx would be a better option than the asus because of noise - was going to buy the asus, not sure now.

Do you have catalyst AI off, standard, or advanced ?
would they change it for the XFX one ? somethings not right here. fans getting worse.
sounds like it's gonna blow up lol a lot of ppl over the net have this same issue. some novice guy must have made some bad batches..

I got the XFX and am very happy with it - the Asus came down in price after I had ordered the XFX one and it had been shipped so didn't have the choice.

I'm pretty glad as I already had to return my original Sapphire 4890 for overheating and another faulty 4890 would have put me off completely.

XFX would be better i think, 2 games + 2year ocuk warranty.
ASUS sucks their service is terrible and the extra few mhz and the volt tweaker isn't worth it. Cards are so powerful these days that you don't need to overclock anyway, other than to get the highest 3dmark score.
If you send yours back to ocuk get the xfx one instead.

This is what you get with OCUK. They just keep sending out faulty hardware thats been returned, until it dont come back.

I have a 4890 which I did not try yet. If this is the case, this is the LAST time I am ordering from OCuk. I had a lot of "bad experience" lately.
