Problem with my nvidia

I'm having a problem where i cant open my nvidia control panel it just says.
'nvidia display settings are not available'. it then underneath says. 'you are not currently using a display attached to a nvidia GPU.' at first i thought it was the fact my monitor wasn't HDMI but i've since got one and it still dosent work. the computer is currently a week old and i bought it brand new and built from overclockers. everything inside seems plugged and ive tried a few things but i cant figure it out any help would be greatly appreciated.

it sounds like you do not have a NVidia card ... maybe just onboard or AMD?

oh sorry thats my fault i dident specify it is a geforce gtx 1060 6gb graphics card

Is your HDMI definitely into the back of the Nvidia card and not your on board. Which Cpu are you using.?

ive found out what the problem was i was prepared not to say but i must confess i had both the HDMI and the VGA plugged in i had no idea it only recognised one thanks for all your help though
